Reinventing Learning: Whereforth from Here?
Abstract
The world changed suddenly when 2020 came, bringing in the COVID-19 virus and causing lockdowns and movement control all around the world in a bid to prevent the uncontrolled spread of the virus (Velavan & Meyer, 2020). Unable to gather in close contact, offices, and schools closed, the business closed their doors.
While many grit their teeth while waiting for the lockdown period to end, the enterprising few took the initiative to switch to online presence. For these few, their initiative proved to be genius, as the lockdown continued to be extended, from the original three weeks to nearly six months. After brief hiatus, as numbers once again climbed, lockdown in Malaysia was once again implemented. A year on, the country is still in lockdown, and those that chose to wait are either late to the party, struggling to survive, or sadly, gone.
Fortune favors the bold, the saying goes, and this unprecedented time calls for unprecedented courage. The training sector, deemed as a non-essential service, was hit hard with no face-to-face training allowed. Some made the switch to online training, while some, too heavily invested in face-to-face training, bore the pain while awaiting to restart the business of training.
At the rate things are going, COVID-19 will be around a little longer yet. What now?
