Appreciative Inquiry into Smart Meter Installers’ Capability Building
Abstract
Smart meters are electric-powered reading meters that allow daily electricity consumption to be recorded and converted into data which can be monitored by consumers. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) plans to install the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) or smart meter in 8.3 million households across the country by 2022. TNB has rolled out the first phase of its AMI implementation to customers in Malacca and is expanding to Lembah Klang in November 2019 for another 1.5 million smart meters. In order for that, TNB Integrated Learning Solution Sdn. Bhd. (ILSAS), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TNB, has assisted in the AMI implementation by providing end-to-end AMI training for TNB staff and Smart Meter Installers. A Smart Meter Installer is a TNB representative to communicate and install smart meter to householders. To go beyond formal training, Appreciative Inquiry (AI) method, 70:20:10 learning, and development model have been incorporated to the project implementation to produce highly competent installers with the right technical and communication skills.
